Switch!

Now I have never claimed to be the smartest person around. Maybe the smartest person currently in my office, but that is about it. One thing I have latched onto is this: My boss is wanting to stay open more during some holidays. Like he wanted to be open for Good Friday this year. He gave me an offer: I can work Friday, and then take Monday off. He had done this before, and I always take it. Why? Because I know that more than likely he will send me home early anyway, who said you can't teach and old dog new tricks?

UPDATE: I was right, at 11:45 my boss said I could leave when I finished up what I was doing. I was gone before 12:30.

Regrowing Limbs: Can People Regenerate Body Parts?: Scientific American

A fascinating article on studying how salamanders regrow their limbs and using that information to eventually allow humans to regrow body parts.

You're Having I'm Arby's

Just some quick notes, kind of a free form post:
  1. How sad is it that I was really excited that I saw an Arby's going being built close to me in the great city of Frisco? I was so happy I almost peed myself (well not quite). In my defense I haven't been in over 2 years. As much crap is around me the closest Arby's is 25-30 min away.
  2. Sunday I had 2 dreams I remembered. The first one I was a lacrosse goalie. I thought I did pretty well considering I've never played the sport before. I didn't stop everything, but I made a good showing of myself. The second was more surreal. I was protecting a girl I went to grade school with from a stalker, and was hiding her at my uncle's house in west Texas. Plus, a cousin on the other side of my family was helping me out.
  3. The funniest/most disturbing thing I've heard at the comic shop in a while, the owner to a customer, "No, comics about cannibalism isn't a big genre right now, but you never know." Different strokes I guess.
  4. My dad is getting re-married in May, more on this later.
  5. Pat Summerall is on the radio right now, man I do miss him announcing NFL games.

Snow Day

Last week we had snow here not once, but twice in one week. This was the first time I can ever remember that happening. I later heard that it was the first time we have had snow twice in the same month in 62 years around here. Wow. When it came Monday, I knew it wouldn't stick to the roads as it ad been too warm for it to. Yards and such it stayed.

Thursday though was really up in the air as to how bad it would get. First it was raining here, then sleet, then snow, and it just kept changing. It was sleet for half an hour or so, and then snow for like 45 minutes. It was weird.

My boss sent us home early, because as he said the roads can get bad quick around here in that weather. To me, there are two main type of drivers in that weather. 1. Idiot (like me) who were raised here and know they can't drive on the slick roads, and prove it. 2. Yankees who think they know how to drive on the icy roads, but have forgotten. So I was glad to get out of there early.

Once I got home, I realized I had nothing to drink, so I decided to drive the almost one mile to 7-11 to pick some up. I get there, and I saw some guys had a table outside setup to sell some sort of product. I felt bad for them, they probably picked the worst day to setup.

Once I got back home and got settled in for the night it was pretty relaxing. It was funny to see one the dogs, Juno, outside trying to catch as many snowflakes as he could. Running around like a maniac in the backyard. The next morning the street were clear yet again. Almost no ice anywhere around me. On the way to work as I went over one hill I actually got a very cool view of all of these houses below me and their snow-capped roofs. A rare visual treat to be sure.
